We are set up on the Kendua Bypass, right near the Jai Mata Di Dharmkata on National Highway No-31. Being out here by the highway means there’s a constant roar of trucks and buses passing by at all hours of the day. At A.K Steel, we deal with a lot of heavy lifting. The yard is always full of steel rods, sheets, and various scraps that we move around with the crane whenever a customer shows up. It’s a very open space, so we’re at the mercy of the weather, whether it’s the scorching sun or the heavy monsoon rains that soak everything. We don't have a polished showroom; our office is more of a functional room where we keep the scales and the ledgers. People stop by because they see our sign from the road or because they’re using the weighbridge next door for their own loads. We spend our days measuring out steel and loading it onto flatbeds for transport. It’s physical work and your clothes are definitely going to get dirty if you stay here for more than five minutes. We’ve gotten used to the grit and the noise of the NH-31. It’s a straightforward business where we just focus on the weight and the type of steel being moved. We don't put on any acts for customers. They come in, tell us what they need, we weigh it, and they’re back on the highway heading to their next destination.
