We started this place because animals in Mumbai need a spot where they can actually get fixed up without too much fuss. Out here in Kalamboli, near Plot 7-8 in Sector 9E, it gets pretty busy most days. There is always someone coming through the door with a dog that got hit by a car or a cat that looks a bit rough. It is not some fancy clinic with white walls that stay clean for more than five minutes. It gets messy here, mostly because we are always dealing with something new every hour. The staff is mostly local folks who just care about making sure these creatures do not suffer. Sometimes we run out of space, and sometimes the phones do not stop ringing, but we just keep going. It isn't easy work, and some days are better than others. You see a lot of sad things, but then you see a dog wagging its tail after a week of treatment and it feels okay for a bit. People know where we are in Navi Mumbai, and they know we are just doing what we can with what we have. We do not have all the answers, but we try to look at every animal that shows up. It is loud, it smells like medicine and wet fur most days, and there is always a lot of paperwork to catch up on. But the hospital stays open because the work never really stops. We are just here on Plot 7-8, trying to get through the day.
