Working at 1/1 in the Etc Industrial Area is about what you would expect from a place on Thane Belapur Road. It is loud and busy, with a lot of heavy trucks constantly moving in and out. This part of Kopar Khairne is mostly factories and warehouses, and our building is just one of many. Inside Akzo Nobel Coatings India, we deal with a lot of chemicals and drums of paint all day long. The smell of solvents is something you just get used to after the first week. It’s a big operation, but on the floor, it’s just us moving pallets and making sure the lines are running. We wear our uniforms and follow the rules, but the work is still greasy and physical. The sun beats down on the corrugated roofs in the afternoon, making the whole place feel like an oven. We take our breaks in the shade when we can. It’s not a fancy place with carpets and quiet rooms. It is an industrial site where things get made and shipped out to the rest of the country. We see the same delivery drivers every morning, and we know exactly which machines are going to be a pain to start up. Kopar Khairne is a gritty area, and our daily routine matches that. We just focus on the batches and try to get through the shift without any spills or problems.
