Being on the third floor of Kamal Residency means you get a bit of a breeze through the windows, which is nice for Nashik. We’re tucked away in Patil Lane No 3. If you look out from the balcony, you can see people heading towards Makkaresh Hotel for their lunch. The stairs are a bit steep, so everyone gets a workout before they even start their maths problems for the day. We have several rooms filled with wooden benches. It’s mostly just the sound of scratching pencils and Subhash explaining a formula on the board. Math isn't an easy subject for everyone, so there's a lot of erasing and starting over. The walls are mostly bare except for a calendar and a few notes pinned up. We don't have air conditioning, just the ceiling fans that hum all day long. College Road is always busy, so there’s a constant background noise of cars and bikes down below. Students usually arrive in small groups, talking about their school day. We keep some extra notebooks in a pile for anyone who forgets theirs at home. It's not a fancy corporate office. It's a place where people sit down and do the hard work. Sometimes we stay late when a big exam is coming up. We’ve been in this building for a long time now. Most people in the area know the name. We just open the doors in the morning and close them when the last student finally finishes their work.
