Kalpawruksha Adivasi Bamboo Association

We are the Kalpawruksha Adivasi Bamboo Association over on College Road in Nashik, specifically at Anandadip Co on Plot Number 3. You can ask for Kalavati Chavan’s place if you get lost. Our whole thing is about bamboo and the Adivasi communities who work with it. Bamboo is a really useful plant, and the people we work with have been using it for generations to make all sorts of things. We just help them organize a bit better so they can sell their products for a fair price or find new ways to use the materials they have. It’s very hands-on work. You won’t find many suits or ties around here. Usually, there are samples of bamboo poles lying around and we’re talking about how to get things from the forest to the market without too much trouble. It’s not always easy because transport can be a real pain in this area. We are just a local association. We don't have a huge budget, so we make do with what we have. Sometimes the office is a bit messy with all the projects and shavings on the floor. We think that’s a good sign though. It means people are actually making things. Nashik is a good place for us because we are close enough to the hills where the bamboo grows. We aren't trying to be a big industry, just a group that supports people doing the real work with their hands.
