Heena Udyog

We are based near the Malegoan Motor Stand on Vaishnav Road in Panchavati. Being near the motor stand means there is a constant sound of engines revving and horns honking. Our workshop is a bit small, but we use every inch of the space. We have benches lined up against the walls with all sorts of tools hanging on hooks. Some of the hooks are just bent nails we hammered into the wood. The floor is stained with oil and there are piles of metal shavings in the corners. We do a lot of small-scale manufacturing and repair work here. Panchavati is a busy area, so we get a lot of foot traffic passing by our doors. I usually sit on a small plastic chair near the entrance to keep an eye on things. We have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit but it keeps the air moving. My brother and I run the place with a couple of helpers. We don't bother with fancy uniforms; we just wear our old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There is a small tea stall just two doors down where we go twice a day. The walls are covered in grease marks where people have leaned against them over the years. It is just a regular local shop where we work hard and go home tired. Some people stop by just to ask for directions or to borrow a tool for a minute.
