Ajay Co. Embroidery Frame

We’ve been over here near Raja Garden for quite some time now. Ajay Co. Embroidery Frame is basically a workshop where we make the wooden rings and stands people use for their stitching. It’s a bit dusty because of all the sawing and sanding we do, but that’s just part of the job. You can usually find us in the back where the noise is. We make different sizes, from small ones that fit in your hand to those big ones for wedding saris. It’s a local business and we mostly sell to the shops around the main city area or directly to people who do embroidery at home. My father started this and now I’m the one looking after the wood orders and the machines. Sometimes the wood isn't perfect, so we have to spend extra time smoothing it out so the fabric doesn't snag. That’s the most important bit, really. People stop by to pick up a few frames or just to see what we have ready for the week. We don't have a big showroom or anything, just the workspace and a counter. It’s simple work but people need these frames for their craft. The Raja Garden area is always moving, so there is always someone passing by. We stay busy enough with the regular orders. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, making sure the frames are sturdy.
