Our shop is at 22-7 in the Main Bazar of Nandyal, and let me tell you, it’s a busy place to be every single day. The bazar is always full of people, carts, and cows, so there’s never a quiet moment from morning until late at night. We’ve been part of this market for a long time, and the building itself shows its age a bit, but it’s sturdy. Inside, it’s mostly shelves and old wooden counters where we handle all the business. We deal with various goods, and the inventory changes depending on what’s in demand, but we always have the basics. It’s the kind of place where we know the names of almost everyone who walks through the door because they’ve been coming here for years. My family has been doing this for a long time, and I just took over the daily running of things. We don’t have a computer for everything; a lot of it is still written down in the big red account books. The ceiling fans spin all day long to keep the air moving, but the smell of the market—spices, dust, and tea—always finds its way inside. It’s a lot of work keeping track of everything in such a crowded spot, but we like being right in the middle of the action. By the time we pull down the shutters, the whole bazar is starting to settle down for the night.
