Rajkhowa Brick Industry

Our place is called Rajkhowa Brick Industry. You will find us in Namrup, right near the Astc Bus Stand. We are situated at P.O. Parbatpur. My name is Banil Rajkhowa, and this is a family business that has been around for a while. Being so close to the bus stand means we see a lot of people passing through Namrup every single day. It can get pretty noisy with the buses coming and going, but it makes it easy for people to find us. We work mostly with local soil to get our bricks made. It is a process that hasn't changed much since my father was doing it. We fire up the kilns and keep them going for days at a time. It’s hot work and you have to keep a close eye on things. Parbatpur is a good community and we feel lucky to be a part of it. We don't have a website or any of those modern things. Most people just walk in or call us up on the phone. We spend our time in the yard, checking the quality of the bake and making sure the stacks are straight. Sometimes the weather in Namrup can be a bit unpredictable, so we have to be ready to cover the bricks at a moment's notice. It’s a lot of physical labor, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a finished pile of bricks ready for a new home.
