Our spot is out on Salem Main Road in Pudhuchathiram. The address is 2/149, and it’s right by the main thoroughfare. Because we are on the main road, there is a lot of dust that comes in from the trucks passing by. We spend a fair amount of time sweeping the floor. It’s a trading business, so we have all kinds of goods stacked up in the warehouse area. Some days it’s bags of grain or construction materials, depending on what the season is. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know how to handle the heavy lifting. The sun gets quite strong in the afternoon, so we usually pull the shade down a bit. It’s a very practical environment. We don't use much technology besides an old calculator and a mobile phone for calls. People stop their vehicles outside and hop out to see what we have in stock. It’s a lot of conversation about prices and what’s available this week. We try to keep things organized, but when a big shipment arrives, the whole place looks like a mess for a few hours. That’s just how it goes here. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a reliable stop for traders and locals moving between Salem and the nearby villages. We finish up when the sun goes down and the road traffic starts to thin out.
