Salem Polypacks Limited is out here in Thengalpalayam, which is a bit of a drive within the Namakkal district. Usually, you can hear the machines running long before you actually step inside the building. It’s a busy place most days. There are big rolls of plastic everywhere and people moving things back and forth on the floor. It isn't a fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. We spend most of our time just making sure the extruders are working right and the bags are coming out the way they should. The air inside always has that faint smell of heated plastic, which I guess you just get used to after a week or two. Our staff mostly comes from the nearby villages, and we’ve known each other for a long time. At lunchtime, everyone sits around and talks about local things, not just work. The loading area stays pretty crowded with trucks coming in to pick up orders. Sometimes the power goes out and we all have to wait for the generators to kick in, which is just part of life here. We don't have a big corporate team; it’s just a group of us trying to keep the machines humming. The floor is concrete and dusty from all the movement, but that’s how a factory looks when it’s actually doing something. We keep our records in old ledgers and some on the computer. It’s a plain way of working.
