Pachai Amman Tutorial Centre

Pachai Amman Tutorial Centre is based in Konganapuram, which is a fairly quiet part of Salem. We started this place because local students needed a spot to study after their regular school hours were over. It is hard to find a quiet place at home sometimes, and having a dedicated center helps them focus on their work. We deal with various subjects depending on what the students are finding difficult in their current grade. Salem can get quite hot during the summer, so we try to keep the rooms as airy as possible with fans going all the time. The building we are in isn't brand new, but it serves our purpose well enough for teaching. Most of the kids come from the nearby neighborhoods, so they usually just walk or ride their bikes over. We know most of the parents around here too, so it feels more like a community spot than a formal school. Sometimes we stay late if an exam is coming up, just to make sure everyone feels ready. We do not use any fancy technology, just chalk and boards and lots of practice papers. There is a lot of repetition involved in our sessions, but that is how the kids learn. We have a small desk near the entrance where people can come and talk to us about which classes are available. It is pretty straightforward. We just want to make sure the students in Konganapuram have a place to go.
