Our place is out in Nandhipahad, specifically at 2-157 if you’re looking for the exact spot. It’s a bit of a drive out here in the Miryalguda area of Nalgonda. The main thing you’ll notice when you arrive is the sound of the polishing machines. They run pretty much all day long. It gets quite messy with all the water and the stone dust everywhere, so we usually wear heavy boots. We spend most of our time dealing with different types of stone that come in. Polishing them down so they look decent takes a lot of time and effort. It’s hard work on the back, leaning over those slabs for hours. The crew here is mostly local guys from the district who know their way around the equipment. We don’t have much of a front office, just a small desk where we keep the logs. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend half a day fixing a belt or a motor, which can be frustrating when there’s a lot of stone waiting. We just try to get through the daily pile. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The weather gets really hot around here in the summer, which makes the workshop feel like an oven, but the water from the polishing helps a bit. We just keep the slabs moving and try to finish by sunset.
