Ramulamma Cattle Rearing

Our home and work is at 5-5 in Harijanawada, which is in the Chillapuram area of Jangam. I am Ramulamma and I have been raising cattle here for more years than I can count. It’s a small operation that we run right out of our own backyard. We don’t have any big staff or fancy tools. Most of the work is done by me and a few family members. The day is filled with constant tasks like fetching water and hauling hay. Cattle drink a surprising amount, especially when the summer heat in Jangam gets intense. We have to keep a close eye on them to make sure they don't get sick or dehydrated. The sheds need cleaning every single day to keep the flies away. It’s a messy job and you never really get the smell off your clothes, but we are used to it by now. We don't have a big sign or any promotional stuff. People in Chillapuram know where we are if they ever need to find us. We buy our supplies locally and try to keep our costs down as much as possible. Sometimes the work is exhausting and I just want to sit down, but the animals can't wait. They depend on us for everything. It’s a practical, no-nonsense way of living. We just keep our heads down and do what needs to be done for the cattle day in and day out.
