You can find us at 6 2 940/4 on Hyderabad Road, right in the Meerbargh Colony area. Sri Vijaya Laxmi Chenetha Vastralayam has been here for a while, and the shop is filled with the kind of things we’ve been working on for years. It’s a local spot where people from the colony stop in to see what’s new or just to say hello. The shelves are packed with fabrics, and sometimes it’s hard to find a place to sit down because there’s so much stock. We don't have a big staff, usually just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. The lighting in the shop isn't the best, but we know the colors of the cloth by heart anyway. We don't use a lot of fancy computers; we still write out our receipts by hand in those little blue books. It’s a slow pace of life compared to the big malls in the city. On hot days, we keep the fan running and wait for the evening breeze to come through the door. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop on Hyderabad Road, we just want to keep the doors open and provide what the neighbors need. Most of our customers are people we’ve known since they were kids. It’s a comfortable place to work, even if the floor is a bit uneven and the walls could use a new coat of paint.
