Geetha Cattle Rearing

We have been living at house number 5-162 in Kothagudem for many years now. My name is Geetha and our daily life revolves around cattle rearing. It’s a lot of work that starts way before the sun comes up. Usually, I am out in the shed by five in the morning to start cleaning. We don’t have fancy equipment, so we do everything by hand with buckets and brooms. The cows are part of our family really. We know each of their habits and which ones are likely to cause trouble during feeding time. Narayanpur is a quiet place and we like it that way. We take the animals out to the open patches of land nearby when the grass is green enough. Sometimes the weather is too dry and we have to buy extra fodder from the market, which is expensive. The kids help out after they get home from school, mostly by bringing water or helping me move the smaller calves. It is a very physical job and my hands are always rough from the work. We don't have an office or a big sign. If someone needs us, they just come to the house and call out from the gate. We keep things simple and just focus on keeping the animals healthy and fed. It is a long day every day but it is what we know how to do best. We are just local people making a living with our livestock.
