Working the land out at H. No. 92 in Kadapagandi Thanda is a tough job, but it is the life we know. Rice isn't just something you go and buy at the store; it is something you have to sweat over in the fields for months on end. We are out there in the Jangam area every single day, checking the water levels and making sure the crops are growing like they should. The mud has a way of getting into everything you own, and your back usually feels pretty stiff by the end of a long day. It is not like those office jobs where you sit in the cool air and look at a screen. Out here, we deal with the hot sun and the heavy rain as they come. The thanda is a small community, so everyone knows exactly whose field is whose. We have our own traditional ways of doing things, nothing too modern or complicated. Just basic tools and a lot of hard work. When the harvest time finally comes, it is a mad rush and everyone ends up completely exhausted. We don't have any marketing people or a polished front office to show off. Our real office is the dirt and the open sky. Sometimes the crop turns out great, and other times it is a real struggle to get anything at all. You can't control the weather, so you just work with what you have.
