Prabhat Brick

You can find Prabhat Brick over in Barama, right on the side of NH-31. We are situated very close to the Nirmala Kumar Papra L.P. School, so we see the kids walking by in their uniforms every morning and afternoon. The noise from the highway is something you just get used to after a while. Our work revolves around the seasons. When the weather is clear, we are busy from sunrise to sunset making as many bricks as we can. We use the local earth and it makes a decent product that people in the area seem to like for their projects. My hands are usually stained from the mud, and there is always a layer of grit on everything in the office. It isn’t a glamorous job by any means. We deal with all sorts of people, from big contractors to a guy just needing a few bricks to fix a hole in his wall. Sometimes the kiln doesn't heat up quite right and we lose a few bricks, which is always a shame. We just keep going because people need materials to build their lives. Being near the school makes us feel like a real part of the neighborhood. We aren't doing anything fancy here, just basic brick making that has been done the same way for years. It’s a steady rhythm that we have all grown to appreciate.
