L R Rice Mills Pvt. Ltd. is easy to spot right on Old Station Road. This mill has been a part of the local district for a long time now. Usually, you can hear the hum of the machinery long before you actually reach the gates. It’s a dusty environment, but that is just what happens when you are processing grain all day. Our days are filled with handling sacks, checking the machines, and managing the trucks that come and go. The weather plays a big part in our schedule; if it starts raining, everything has to slow down. Old Station Road is always busy, which keeps us on our toes from morning until night. We don't have any fancy offices with air conditioning here. Most of the space is taken up by the work floor and a small area for keeping our records. It is hard work and the hours can be very long, especially when it’s harvest time. Many of us have been working at this mill for years, so we know the sounds of the machines by heart. We don't try to make the work sound more exciting than it is. It’s just a regular rice mill where people put in a lot of effort to get the job done. We stay busy, we get tired, and we come back to do it again the next morning. That is life on Old Station Road.
