Nirmala Jaiprakash Welfare Foundation

Nirmala Jaiprakash Welfare Foundation operates out of Damodarpur in the Kanti block. It is located at Jaiprakash Narayan Sinha’s residence. This isn't some high-rise office in a city center. It’s a local foundation rooted in the village and town life here. Kanti is a place where people look out for each other, and that is why we are here. We do welfare work, which mostly means helping out people in the neighborhood with whatever they need. The office is really just a couple of rooms with some chairs and a table where we sit and talk through the problems of the day. There is always a lot of coming and going. People from the block come by to ask for help or just to see what is going on. We don't have a lot of funding or fancy equipment. Most of what we do is just based on being there and listening. The atmosphere is very informal. You might find us sitting outside on a charpai if the weather is nice. We are just regular people trying to do something decent for the community. Sometimes the paperwork gets a bit much, but we get through it. It is honest work, even if it’s slow at times. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. People mostly find out about us by word of mouth in the village. It is just how things work in this part of Damodarpur. We are just happy to be here helping out.
