Ambuja Cements Limited

Our unit is based in the village of Navagaon, which is up in the Solan district. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here, but the air is different than in the plains. We work with cement, so things can get a little grey and dusty around the site, but that is just the nature of the job. Most of the people working here are from the nearby villages, so it feels like a community even though it is a big operation. We don’t really do much of the corporate talk here on the ground. We are more focused on the machinery and making sure the trucks get loaded correctly before they head down the hills. The weather in Solan can be a bit unpredictable, which sometimes slows us down, but we just keep at it. Navagaon is a small place, and our presence here is pretty well known by everyone around. We have our routines, like the tea breaks and the shift changes, that keep the day moving along. It is a lot of heavy lifting and manual work, so everyone stays pretty tired by the end of the day. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't. We just make the cement and send it out to wherever it's needed. It's a basic, solid business that’s been part of this landscape for a long time. There isn't much more to it than just doing a hard day's work and going home.
