Star Handicrafts

We spend a lot of time in Gali No-25. It’s a tight spot near Madarsa Darul Islam, mostly crowded but that is just how it is here. Star Handicrafts has been around this part of Mandi Samiti Road for quite some years. There are five of us working in the back room most days. It gets dusty because of the materials we use. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit outside Peer Wali Gali for a tea break until things start up again. People come by asking for all sorts of handmade things. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything. It is just a workshop with tools and a lot of wood and fabric lying around. My uncle started this place when the road wasn't even paved properly. We just keep doing the work, day after day. It's noisy because of the traffic outside but you get used to it. We don't really do big advertisements. Most people find us because they live nearby or someone told them about the shop near the madarsa. We mostly finish orders on time but sometimes things take longer if the material doesn't arrive. That's life in a small alleyway like this. It's not a big company, just a small place where we make things and hope they turn out alright for the folks who buy them. The tea stall nearby is where we spend our evenings talking about the day's work. It’s a simple life for us here.
