Mehra Candles

We are located at New Charton Lodge in Mallital, which is a nice part of Nainital. Making candles here feels right because the air is usually cool. We spend most of the day melting wax and setting up molds. The smell of the wax stays in our clothes even after we go home. It’s a small operation inside the lodge area. We don't have big machines or anything like that. Everything is done by hand on the old tables we’ve had for years. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait. That’s just life in the hills. Mallital can get crowded with tourists, but back where we are at New Charton Lodge, it stays fairly peaceful. We have stacks of finished candles waiting to be packed up. Some are plain and some have different shapes. We don’t really do fancy labels or anything. People just know where to find us. The floor is always a bit slippery from the wax drops. We have to scrape it off every few days. It's a lot of repetitive work, but it keeps us busy. When the weather gets really cold, the wax hardens faster, which helps. We’ve been doing this for a long time now. It’s just what we do every day. We hope the candles light up someone’s room nicely. The mist often comes right up to the door while we are working inside.
