Shree Sai Driving School

Up on the first floor of Taj Palace on Umred Road, that’s where you will find us. We are right in the Dighori area of Nagpur, not too far from the Panchvati Ashram. Being on the first floor gives us a bit of a view of the road, so we can see how the traffic is looking before we head down to the cars. Nagpur gets incredibly hot in the summer, so the morning slots are always the first to fill up by the students. By noon, the interior of the car feels like an oven, but we keep going through the lessons anyway because the work has to be done. We have a simple desk and some chairs where people sit and wait their turn for the car. Most of the folks who come here are from the local Dighori area or commute along Umred Road for work. Learning to drive here means dealing with a lot of heavy vehicles and the occasional stray animal crossing the road without warning. We teach the basic stuff—how to find the biting point of the clutch, how to reverse without hitting a pole, and how to stay calm when someone honks behind you. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn until the streetlights come on at night. The paperwork for the licenses takes up the rest of the time. We aren't a big corporation; we just run this small office and help our neighbors get mobile. It is a predictable but good routine for us.
