Mayur Tiles

We’ve been here at Ashirwad Palace for a good while now. It’s right across from the post office in Dhantoli, so everyone in the area knows where to find us without much trouble. Mayur Tiles is basically a place where we keep a lot of stock and try to help people figure out what they need for their floors or bathrooms. It gets really busy on Abhayankar Road, especially in the mornings when the big deliveries come in and we have to unload the trucks. We spend most of our time moving heavy boxes around or showing people the different patterns and finishes we have available. Sometimes the lights in the back flicker, but we get by. It’s not a fancy showroom, just a shop with stacks of ceramics and stone everywhere you look. Most days it’s just us drinking tea and waiting for the next customer or truck to arrive. People come in with measurements written on messy scraps of paper, and we do our best to match what they saw in some magazine. We’ve seen this neighborhood change a lot over the years, but the post office is still there, and so are we. The floor is always a bit dusty because of the grout and tile dust, but that’s just how it is in this trade. We don’t have a big fancy office, just a wooden desk and a lot of heavy samples. It’s a lot of lifting and shifting, but it keeps us moving through the day.
