M L Rice Mill

M L Rice Mill is situated right near the Anurag Cinema Hall in Khandak Par. You can’t miss it if you’re heading towards the post office. The mill has been a part of this neighborhood for quite some time. When the machines are running, you can hear a steady thrumming sound that carries down the street. It’s a dusty job, and by the end of the shift, everyone usually has a thin layer of white powder on their clothes. We don’t mind it much. The location near the cinema hall means there’s always something happening nearby, especially in the evenings when the shows are about to start. Khandak Par is a busy place, and we are right in the thick of it. The office part of the mill is just a small room with a few chairs and a calendar on the wall. We spend most of our time out on the floor, though. There are heaps of grain waiting to be processed and heavy sacks being loaded onto carts. It’s hard work, and the heat inside can get pretty intense during the summer months. We drink a lot of water and keep the fans going as much as we can. It’s a regular rice mill, nothing more and nothing less. We just focus on getting the rice ready and moving it out to where it needs to go. That's the way it's always been here.
