Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital

Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital is a big landmark in Nagpur. Most people around here just call it by its initials or the government hospital. It is a very busy place, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can see people sitting on the benches in the hallways at all hours, waiting for news or an appointment. The building is quite old and has that specific hospital smell of disinfectant and medicine. There are long wards with rows of beds, and the nurses are always moving from one patient to another. It gets crowded, especially in the mornings when the outpatient departments open up. We see people coming in from all over Maharashtra, not just the city. Some travel quite a distance by bus or train to get here. The corridors are wide but often filled with stretchers and staff rushing to the emergency room. It’s a government facility, so things can be a bit slow sometimes with the paperwork, but the doctors work hard. Outside the main entrance, there are stalls selling tea and snacks for the relatives who stay overnight. The fans hum constantly overhead to keep the heat down during the Nagpur summers. It’s a place of a lot of noise and movement, where life happens in the middle of a lot of struggle and effort. We just try to keep things moving as best as we can every single day for the people who need us.
