Prakash Opticals

Being on WHC Road in Dharampeth means there is always something going on outside. We are right opposite Anand Bhandar, so you can usually smell whatever they are cooking over there while we are working. At Prakash Opticals, the days are mostly spent cleaning lenses and adjusting frames that people sat on by accident. It’s a small shop. We have the glasses displayed in the glass cases, and they need a lot of wiping down because of the fingerprints. Sometimes the traffic on the road is so loud we have to speak up a bit. It’s mostly just us here, looking through the various styles and trying to keep everything organized. The light in the shop is quite bright so people can see what they are trying on. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but we stay right here in this same spot. It’s not a big corporate place. It’s more like a spot where you come in, say hello, and get your nose pads replaced. The floor is a bit worn in the spots where people stand the most. We keep a stash of small screws and tools behind the counter. Most of the time, it’s quiet enough that we can hear the clock ticking on the wall between the customers coming in. It’s just how it goes here in Dharampeth on a normal afternoon when the sun is out. We keep the mirrors clean and the door open for the breeze.
