Krishna Rice & General Mills

Krishna Rice & General Mills sits right on Devigarh Road. It's usually busy. We spend most of our time out in the yard or near the hullers. The address is just Devigarh Road, nothing fancy. You can see the piles of bags from the gate. We get a lot of trucks coming through. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, which is a pain. Then we just wait or fix something. The dust is always there. It gets on your clothes and in your hair. We don't mind it much anymore. It's just part of the day at the mill. People stop by to ask about prices or just to say hello. It's a simple setup. We've got the storage area and the main milling part. My uncle used to say the machines have their own language. If you listen, you know when a belt is loose. We try to keep things moving. Harvest time is the worst for sleep. We stay late getting the paddy sorted. It's a lot of manual labor, lifting and stacking. The shed gets hot in the summer. We have a small office, but nobody stays in there much. It’s mostly for the paperwork and keeping the ledger. If you’re driving down Devigarh Road, you’ll see the sign. It’s been there a while. We just keep doing what we do. We don't have any big plans for expansion right now, we just want to keep the equipment running and the floors clear for the next delivery of grain.
