Royal Furniture

You can find Royal Furniture near the Beach Road at the Maravan Kudiyirupu Junction, right close to the industrial estate area. Our workshop is always full of the smell of cut wood and varnish. It’s a bit of a loud place because we have the saws going for most of the morning and afternoon. We make things like chairs, tables, and cabinets for people’s homes around here. Sometimes we have a few finished pieces sitting out near the front so people passing by on the way to the beach can see them. The floor is almost always covered in sawdust no matter how many times we sweep it up during the day. We don't have a showroom with bright lights or air conditioning. It’s just the workshop where the work actually happens. We have a few guys who have been doing this for years and they know how to handle the tools without even thinking about it. Sometimes people come in with a sketch on a piece of paper and ask if we can make something like that. We look at it, talk about the wood we have in stock, and tell them what we can do. It's practical work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. The humidity from being so close to the sea can make the wood act funny sometimes, so we have to be careful with how we store things and let it dry out properly.
