Sts Rice Mandi

We are over at number 15, Kongnamal Kovil Street. Sts Rice Mandi is the name we’ve used for a lot of years now. The street is named after the temple nearby, so we get a lot of people passing through, especially on the big festival days. Our mandi is a place where rice is the main thing we handle. It involves a lot of heavy lifting every day. The sacks are piled high all the way towards the ceiling. It smells like raw grain and old wood in here. We don’t have any air conditioning, so we keep the big front doors open to let the breeze in. It gets dusty, and we are always sweeping the floor, but the dust always seems to come back by the next morning. We don’t have a big corporate office. Our desk is just a small table in the corner that is covered in notebooks and old receipts. We’ve known the other shop owners on this street for a long time. We look out for each other when things get busy. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late in the evening and we have to stay into the night to get everything sorted and put away. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. People come in from all over the local area to get their supplies. We don’t do any fancy talk or try to sell people things they don’t actually need. We just show them what we have and let them decide. It’s a basic way to make a living on Kongnamal Kovil Street.
