Living and working in Sholapuram is a bit different than the main Thanjavur town. Our school is tucked away at 18, Anna Nagar. It’s a primary and nursery school, so the age group is pretty small. You can hear the kids singing their rhymes from the street. The building has been there for years. We deal with the usual stuff like leaky taps or needing to repaint the gate every summer. It’s a lot of work. We have desks that have seen better days but they still hold up. Most of the families around here are locals who work nearby. We see the same faces every morning at drop-off. Sometimes the weather gets too hot, and we have to keep the fans going all day. It gets dusty because of the road, so we spend a lot of time sweeping. It’s a school, not a corporate office, so things feel a bit lived-in. We have a small playground area, though it’s mostly just dirt and a few swings. The teachers here aren't from some big city; they're mostly from this neighborhood. We drink tea in the small break room and talk about the kids. There's no big mystery to how we run things. We just open the doors, teach the lessons, and make sure the kids are okay. It’s a steady routine. Sholapuram is a quiet place generally, and we like it that way. We don't need much more than that.
