Murugan Stores

We’ve got our shop, Murugan Stores, at 12 in the Manjakollai area of Nagapattinam. It’s a pretty traditional part of town. The building is an old one, and it feels like it’s been there forever. We sell all sorts of things that the local families need. It’s not a big chain store, just a family-run business that’s been passed down. Most of our day is spent weighing out items or chatting with the neighbors who stop by. The air here in Nagapattinam can get quite salty because we aren't too far from the sea. Sometimes the humid weather makes things a bit sticky, but we just keep the fans going. We don’t have any slick branding or a marketing team. It’s just us and the stock we have on hand. The floors are a bit worn from all the feet walking over them over the years. We open up early because that's when people like to do their shopping before it gets too hot. It’s a simple way to earn a living. We don’t really use a computer for much, just a ledger and a calculator. It’s honest work. Sometimes the supply trucks are a bit late coming into Manjakollai, but we always have enough to get by. People know they can find us here every day except for the occasional holiday. We like being a part of this community and seeing the kids grow up.
