Mahan Bawa Modern Rice Mill

Mahan Bawa Modern Rice Mill is located at number 249 in Sundaram Pillai Nagar. It is a place where there is always a lot of noise from the machines running. We spend the whole day dealing with bags of grain and making sure the milling process is going okay. The air is often thick with the smell of rice and a bit of dust, which is just how it is in this line of work. We have been in this part of Sundaram Pillai Nagar for some time, and the building has seen a lot of use. The floor is concrete and there are heavy bags stacked up almost to the ceiling in some corners. We don't have a front office or anything like that, just the mill floor and the loading area. Farmers and transporters come in and out all day long, so there is always a lot of shouting to be heard over the sound of the motors. We have to keep a close eye on the equipment because if one thing breaks, everything stops. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving things around and making sure the bags are tied properly. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, it gets very quiet and we just sit outside until it comes back on. It is a straightforward business without any bells or whistles.
