Jegatheswari Ice Plant

Jegatheswari Ice Plant is located at 663, Neela South Street in Melakottaivasal. We don't run a regular shop where people sit down to eat. This is an ice plant, so we focus on making large quantities of ice for the area. The building is at the end of the street and it’s a big, functional space. Inside, it’s always cold and the floor is usually wet from the blocks of ice being moved. We spend our days working with the machinery and moving the ice to the trucks that wait outside. It’s noisy because of the compressors running all the time. We provide ice for various needs around Melakottaivasal. People come to us when they need to keep things cold for transport or for big events in the town. Neela South Street is where we have been for a long time. We don't have any decorations or comfortable waiting areas. It’s an industrial place for hard work. We wear heavy boots because of the water and the cold temperatures inside. We aren't trying to sell a feeling or an experience to anyone. We just produce the ice and make sure it’s ready when people come to pick it up. The neighbors know the sound of our machines. It’s a 24-hour job sometimes, especially when the weather is very hot and the demand goes up. We just keep our heads down and work.
