Happy Village Restaurant

We are located on Old State Bank Road, right in the Mayiladuthurai H O area. Even though the address says Pondicherry, we are rooted right here in this neighborhood. The restaurant is a simple place where we serve the kind of food we grew up with. It's not a place with air conditioning or soft music; it’s more about the overhead fans and the sound of people talking. We open early to get the morning crowd and we stay open until the dinner rush settles down. The tables are made of heavy wood and they’ve seen a lot of use over the years. We do our own shopping at the local market every morning to see what looks good. Sometimes the rain makes the road outside a bit muddy, but people still find their way to us. My brother works the tandoor and I handle the front. We have a few helpers who have been with us for a long time. It’s a lot of washing dishes and cleaning tables, but that’s just the business. We don't have a big fancy menu, just the things we know how to cook well. If you’re walking down Old State Bank Road, you’ll probably smell the curry before you see our sign. It’s a basic spot for a solid meal. We don't put on any acts, we just serve what we have and make sure the plates are full.
