Uphaar Tea is based out of Village Charing Pather, which is near Hojai in the Nagaon district. It’s a very rural area, and things move a bit slower here than they do in the bigger cities. We are surrounded by a lot of green space, and the weather really dictates how our days go. If it’s raining hard, which it does a lot in this part of Assam, things get a bit more difficult with transportation and getting around. We spend our days dealing with the tea that comes from this region. It’s a local operation, through and through. We don’t have a big office or anything like that. Our workspace is just a simple building in the village where we keep everything organized. A lot of the people who live in Charing Pather know who we are. We try to keep things honest and just do our work without making a big fuss about it. We have bags of tea stacked up and we spend a lot of time sorting through them. It’s a lot of physical labor, but we are used to it by now. The community here is close-knit, so news travels fast. We don’t need to do any fancy marketing because everyone already knows where we are. We just focus on getting the tea out to whoever needs it and making sure we stay busy. It's a quiet life, but we like it that way.
