Our factory is located in Pritinagar, which is in the Nadia district of West Bengal. It’s a bit of a journey to get here from the main city, but it’s a quiet place compared to the big urban centers. We make rolls here. The building is large because of the heavy machinery we need for the job. Most of the people who work with us are locals from the village or nearby towns. Shaifali Rolls has been around for some time, and we just go about our business every day without much fuss. The air is a bit fresher here than in Kolkata, though it gets very humid in the rainy season. We have a small office section at the front where we keep the accounts and handle the daily mail. It’s not a polished place by any means. The walls have some stains, and the floor is just plain concrete. We don’t have a big fancy sign outside. We just focus on the manufacturing process. The morning shift starts early, and you can hear the machines humming from the road. We drink a lot of tea while we work to keep our energy up. It’s a steady pace most weeks. Sometimes the electricity acts up because we are in a rural area, but we have some backups to help out. It’s a simple life running a manufacturing unit in a place like Pritinagar.
