This place is run out of Mirkashem Molla’s spot in Tehatta. It is right there in the village, so almost everyone knows the way by now. If you get a bit lost near the police station, just ask anyone on the street and they will point you here. We are not a big city operation with hundreds of employees. We just sit here in the office and help people out with their daily money matters. It all started because folks around here needed a place nearby instead of traveling all day to the city. We keep the books in order and try not to make the forms too complicated for people. Sometimes the paperwork takes a few extra minutes because we want to make sure every name is spelled exactly right. It is a small office, mostly just some desks and a few plastic chairs for people to wait their turn. We often talk about the weather or the local crops while we work. It is just part of living and working in a place like Tehatta. We do not have those fancy glass walls you see in the big banks in Kolkata. It is more like a home office where you can actually talk to a human being. If the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just open the windows and keep going. Life does not stop just because the lights do. We have been here for a good while now.
