Out in Vill: Harinathpur, things are pretty rural. Our spot is in the Kaliganj area of Nadia district. If you look around, you see plenty of green fields and open spaces before you hit our gates. We have been operating here for a while and the locals know us well. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here, but it works for what we do with the castings. The road can be a bit bumpy depending on the season, especially after the heavy rains come through. We have a lot of space for the iron and the yard is always busy with loading. The shed where we work is big and airy which helps during the humid months. Most of us have been working together for a long time so we don’t need to say much to get the job done. It’s not a high-tech environment with flashing lights. It’s more about the smell of metal and the sound of heavy lifting. We keep our logs in big ledgers and there is always a bit of dust on the windows. People from the village often stop by to chat or look for a bit of work. It is a very grounded kind of place. We don’t bother with anything flashy. We just focus on the pipes and the castings and making sure the trucks leave on time. It feels right being out here away from the city.
