Mohammed Store

Mohammed Store is located at 23-654 on Kohinoor Road. Being here in Madikeri, we get a lot of that damp weather, so the shop always smells a bit like rain and old wood. We’ve got a little bit of everything packed into the shelves. It’s a small place, and if two people are standing in the aisle, it’s a squeeze for a third to get past. We don't mind it much, though. Kohinoor Road stays pretty lively, and we like being part of the noise. The shop doesn't have those bright fluorescent lights you see in the bigger cities. We prefer the softer light, even if it makes finding the smaller packets a bit tricky sometimes. I’ve lived in Madikeri my whole life, so the people who come in aren't just customers; they are people I’ve seen growing up. We don't do any big advertising or have a website. If someone needs something, they know where the shop is. The wooden counter is worn down in the middle from years of sliding bags across it. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck on the narrow road, and we have to go out and help move things by hand. It’s just how things go here. We keep the doors open late, especially when the mist rolls in, just in case someone forgot a basic item for their dinner. We usually close up when the street gets quiet and the coffee shops nearby start turning off their signs.
