Kanaka Stores

Kanaka Stores is located at 847 on Alathur Road in Gundlupet. It’s a traditional general store that has been serving the people around here for a long time. The building has high ceilings and we use every bit of the wall space to stack our goods. We carry everything from basic groceries to small household items. It’s a bit of a maze inside, but we know exactly where the soap is and where the lentils are kept. Gundlupet is a place where many people are traveling through, and Alathur Road sees a lot of that traffic. We get a mix of local farmers and people just passing by. My son helps me out during the busy hours in the evening. We don't have a fancy computer for the bills; we just calculate it and give change from the drawer. It’s a simple way of doing business that hasn't changed much over the years. We spend time talking to our customers about the rain or the local news. It’s not just a shop, it’s a place where people meet. Sometimes the shelves get a bit dusty, but we try our best to keep things tidy.
