If you head down to Karapura in the H.D. Kote Taluk, that’s where you’ll find us at the Kabini River Lodge. We’re part of the government setup here in the Mysore District. Living and working out here in the Nissana Belthur area is quite a bit different from the city life most people are used to. The river is right there, and the trees are everywhere you look. It’s not a place with big glass windows and fancy air conditioning in every single corner. We mostly deal with the daily upkeep of the lodge and making sure everything is running for the guests who come through to see the wildlife. The staff mostly stays around the local area, and we’ve grown up knowing these woods pretty well. It gets real quiet at night, except for the sounds of the animals in the distance. During the day, we stay busy with the boats or checking on the rooms. We don't use a lot of complicated systems or high-tech gear. It’s mostly just us talking to each other and making sure the supplies arrived on the truck like they were supposed to. Sometimes the monsoon rain makes the roads a bit of a mess, but we’re used to that. It’s a simple, honest life out here. We don't have any fancy titles or big speeches to give. We just know the river and the lodge. People come here for the forest, and we’re the ones here to keep it all going.
