Our office is right here in Vokkalageri, very close to the Rama Mandira in Nanjangud. It’s 353, a number most the local couriers know by heart now. Being near the temple means there is always some noise or some festival happening nearby, which makes the work day interesting. We have been in this building for a good stretch of time. The rooms are a bit small and the stairs are narrow, but it works for what we do every day. We usually get in around nine and start sorting through the paperwork. It is not some high-tech glass office you see in the big cities. We use old desks and the fans make a bit of a clicking sound when they’re on high. Sometimes it gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we keep the windows open despite the dust from the street. Our neighbors are mostly families or small shops, so it feels like a community. We don’t have a big receptionist or a lobby. If you come by, you just walk in and talk to whoever isn’t on the phone. We handle a lot of information and media stuff, which keeps us pretty busy until the sun goes down. It’s a bit of a scramble some days when deadlines are tight. But we’ve lived in Nanjangud long enough to know how to handle the rush. We just focus on the job and try to go home on time. It’s just how we operate around here.
