Out in the village of Balekatte, specifically in Nandinathapura, is where we do our work. It’s in the Kasaba Hobali area of Piriya Pattana Talluku, which is quite a way from the main city of Mysore. Being a dairy business, our life is tied to the rhythm of the animals and the sun. We are up way before most people are even thinking about waking up. The air out here is different, though it often smells like hay and cattle. Our building is a practical structure meant for handling milk and dairy products, so it’s all tiled floors and stainless steel equipment that we have to scrub down constantly. The roads leading to us can get pretty rough during the monsoon, and we’ve had our fair share of trucks getting stuck in the mud. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning; we have a small room with a fan where we keep our records. It’s a lot of heavy lifting with the milk cans and making sure the cooling units are running perfectly. Sometimes a cow gets sick or a delivery is late, and that throws the whole day off. We just deal with things as they come. It’s a quiet, hardworking life that doesn't leave much room for anything fancy. We are just local people working with the land and the animals to produce something real for the market.
