Subhash General Store

Subhash General Store is on Purani Gudri Road in Chapra. We are in the Saran district, not too far from the Mauna Hotels. This part of town is very old and the streets are quite narrow. You can always hear the sound of the city here. Our shop is quite packed with goods. We have soaps, detergents, notebooks for school kids, and even some plastic buckets stacked near the entrance. The shop gets quite hot in the summer because the building is old, so we keep a cold water pot in the corner for anyone who needs a drink. My father, Subhash, is usually the one behind the counter. He knows everyone's business and likes to ask about their families. We have been on Purani Gudri Road for many years. We have seen the hotels nearby change names and the road get paved and then get holes in it again. We don't do any big advertising. We just open the shutters at eight in the morning and stay until late. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting down the narrow road, so we have to carry the crates ourselves. It’s hard work but it keeps us going. We are just a local store for the people who live and work in this part of Chapra. We try to keep the prices fair so our neighbors keep coming back for their household bits.
