Out here in Keshopur village, things move a bit slower than in the city. Mahavir Proficient Nidhi Limited is based right here at Plot No. 591, which is Shivji Ray’s place. If you’re coming from Sakra, you just follow the main path until you see the sign. We’ve been here for a while now, helping the villagers with their small savings. It’s mostly just us sitting in a room with a ceiling fan that squeaks a little. People walk in with their passbooks, and we record their deposits by hand or on the old computer when the power is actually on. It’s a very local thing. We know whose daughter is getting married and whose son just started school. That’s why we do this—to give people a way to save up for those things without having to travel all the way into Muzaffarpur town. The office is simple, just some wooden chairs and a table. Sometimes the goats from next door wander too close to the door, and we have to shoo them away. We don’t have any marketing people or fancy brochures. We just talk to people under the shade of the trees or at the tea stall and let them know we’re open. It’s a practical way to keep the village money within the village. We’re just regular people trying to make the financial side of life a little easier for our neighbors and friends in this part of Bihar.
