Kanu Halwai Sangharsh Sena Foundation is tucked away in Ward 35 of Muzaffarpur. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta is the main guy here, and he is usually around if you need to talk about anything. The office is over in the Tola area, which can be a bit tricky to find if you aren’t from around here. Muzaffarpur is a crowded place, and Ward 35 is no different, with narrow streets and people everywhere. We aren’t a big organization with lots of funding or a fancy website. Most of the time, we are just sitting around a table trying to figure out how to solve local problems that the neighbors bring to us. It gets pretty hot in the summer, and the fan in the office makes a loud clicking noise that drives everyone crazy, but we manage somehow. People know Sanjeev from the neighborhood, so they trust him when he says he will look into something. We don't really have a set schedule; someone is usually there by mid-morning, and we stay until the work is finished or the mosquitoes get too bad in the evening. It is a very hands-on kind of setup. We don’t do things in a formal way because that’s not how people in this part of town operate. We just listen to what’s going on and do what we can with the little bit of time and money we have available to us.
