Fancy Wool Ways

Garden Reach is where we keep the shop. It's at No. 4. We have bags of wool piled up everywhere. It’s a bit of a maze inside. We’ve been here a long time. The air always smells a bit like sheep and dust. We don't have fancy lights. Just the tubes on the ceiling. When the sun hits the window, you can see all the little bits of wool floating in the air. We spend the day weighing things out and packing them. Garden Reach gets very damp when it rains. We have to make sure the wool stays dry. If it gets wet, it’s no good. We have some plastic sheets we throw over everything. The building is solid enough. The door squeaks every time someone comes in. We should probably oil it. My hands get oily from the wool anyway. We don't really mind the mess. It's just part of the job. Most people who come here are looking for something specific for their own projects. We show them what we have on the shelves. Sometimes we have to dig through the back to find the right color. It takes time. We don't rush. We just go through the piles until we find it. It's quiet work mostly. We like it that way. Fancy Wool Ways isn't a modern place. It’s just a spot where we keep the stock and help the people who come to No. 4. We stay here until the sun goes down and then we close up the shutters for the night. The street gets quiet.
