You can find us at the care-of address of S.K. Nandi, over at 42.A.C. Road, specifically in Bylane-12 in Khagra. This is part of Murshidabad in West Bengal. It’s a bit of a maze back here in the bylanes, but once you find the right turn, we’re right there. The ECC division of Larsen&Toubro operates out of this spot to keep things local. Since it is an old-school neighborhood, the street gets quite narrow, so you have to be careful with vehicles. We aren't in a big glass building. It’s more of a residential-feeling area where we’ve set up our workspace. A lot of time is spent dealing with the paperwork side of the construction business. There’s always a lot of tea going around and people coming in and out to report on progress from various sites around the district. Binders and some old posters line the walls. It can get a bit loud outside when the local market is active, but we just close the door and get on with it. No mission statements are hanging on the walls or anything like that. We just focus on the tasks for the day and try to keep everything on track. Working in Khagra has its own rhythm, and we’ve gotten pretty good at navigating the local ways of getting things done without too much fuss. It's a simple, practical way to work.
